Men’s Health Awareness Throughout Movember

mustaches By now, you may have already heard about the Movember Foundation, which was formed to help bring awareness to men’s health issues such as prostate cancer.  But exactly what is Movember?  Started by a couple friends in Australia who wanted to bring back the moustache as a fashionable way to wear facial hair, Movember grew significantly into one of the best rated charitable movements across the world raising money and awareness through the simple act of growing hair.

Anyone can participate by signing up at us.movember.com and agreeing to grow and keep hair on his face for the entire month of November.  Participants are supposed to raise money through their own webpage on the main site.  The objective is to get people asking about the significance of the facial hair.  When people ask about it, the moustache wearers can explain that it is meant to bring awareness about men’s health issues that are not typically discussed.

Prostate cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed types of cancer in men.  According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in every 7 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.  Unfortunately, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men behind lung cancer.  However, it can be treated if found early giving patients a very high chance at survival.  The key is to have routine prostate exams to detect any signs.

Are you thinking of trying out a new moustache this Movember?  We would love to hear about it.  Let us know in the comments below what type you are planning on growing.  And by all means, send us some pictures of your newest facial hair styles!
