Are you really safe in your car?

You are supposed to feel safe in your vehicle, but what if something happens? Picture yourself stranded on the side of road with a dead cellphone and no idea where you are. Your car has overheated, what would be the first thing you would do? The chances of something like this happening my not seem very big, but it’s better to be safe than sorry. Having these 20 things in your vehicle at all times can help you in the event of an emergency and possibly save your life.

In the glove compartment:
1. Car manual- no one will know your car better than this book.
2. Tire pressure gauge- tires low on air? Sometimes the temperature outside can affect your tires and having one of these gadgets is important to see if you need to get more/less air. (TIP: Your car will have a sticker in the doorjamb on the driver’s side telling you the pressure levels for your tires.)
3. Pen and paper- for writing down quick information in an accident.
4. Emergency money- preferably in change for tolls.
5. USB Mobile Charger- to keep your cellphone fully charged.
6. First aid kit- make sure all items are replaced if used and all medicines are within their expiration date.
7. Matches
8. Window breaker- in case the only way out of your car is through a closed window.
9. Map- yes, a paper one.
10. Battery operated radio
In the trunk:
11. Jumper cables – these will come in handy if a good Samaritan stops to help.
12. Duct tape – great for a quick fix when a mirror or muffler needs to be attached temporarily.
13. Spare tire- in case one of your tires goes bad this will get you home safe.
14. Paper towels- to clean any messes that occur on the road.
15. Change of clothes

In the back seat:
18. Umbrella
19. Ice scrapper- easy to reach if it’s right in your back seat.
20. Blankets- in case you have to spend the night in your car.
